Nice local hardware store and Mel was the nicest guy. My new go to hardware store. Hope downtown Newburgh can come back and this is the kind of store that will lead that charge.

The owner was extremely rude to me during small business Saturday. I visited because the business was participating in the passport promotion. I did not even previously know this shop existed, but I went out of my way to visit and look around. When I asked for a stamp on the promotional passport he said no and then to my confusion literally walked out of the shop. On my way out I told him that I didn’t need anything right now, but I wanted to look around and would be back in the future, he said he didn’t care if he lost me as a customer. Needless to say, I was both confused and hurt by this man’s words and actions. I would have understood if he had a policy that he didn’t provide stamps to people who didn’t make purchases. In fact, if he explained that I would have likely bought something just to get the stamp, but he instead chose to treat me with disrespect. I often like to support local and small businesses, and I certainly will have a need to visit a hardware store in the future to make necessary purchases, but after being treated with such disrespect, I will not be coming back here, and I cannot recommend it to anyone who wishes to be treated with dignity and respect. Luckily there are plenty of hardware stores in the area, and plenty of business owners who treat you with the minimal amount of respect you’d expect to receive.

Hale's is a wonderful, customer-first, local hardware store. I always make it a point of coming and buying here first over the big chains. Owner is extremely knowledgeable and guided me to a better and less expensive solution. They also provide full-service from keys to glass cutting.
